"To all the little girls who are watching, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams." —Hillary Clinton
Hi there! I'm Abigail Gilson. I am a music major at the University of Connecticut studying Vocal Performance with Meredith Ziegler and Composition with Kenneth Fuchs. I have always loved singing, but only recently started composing. One thing that inspires my writing is uniting women through music. My favorite thing to compose is all-women sets. Female poets, female singers, female conductors, female accompanists. I personally believe that music is something that can bring everyone together. And often times in music, women are forced to work against each other, whether it is for a solo in a choir or for a stage part. My sets work to bring women together: a singer cannot function without her accompanist and a choir cannot function when all the women are trying to be their own stars. Music should be something that brings people together, never something that tears people apart.
